Bowen Therapy is an Australian form of body work devised by Australian Tom Bowen in Geelong Western Australia. It is very similar to acupuncture without the needles.
Certain moves are made over certain parts of the body, influencing the body physiologically. Bowen targets the fascia, the place where many of the body’s cellular process takes place.
It is also the webbing that holds organs, muscle and ligaments in place within the physical system.
When cellular process is influenced, clearing the connective tissue, the body moves into a slight detox. This then influences levels of cortisol, the stress hormone reducing this in the body and eventually the body starts to find an even rhythm, the mind and central nervous system naturally sync.
I find that when under chronic pain and stress, people will hold tension in their bodies as a means to protect their injury or site of pain and this usually contributes to the pain. After a series of Bowen moves, the body naturally lets go of its defences and allows it to naturally find a level of relief.
This is the magic of Bowen Therapy, facilitating deep inner connection and allowing the body to reawaken its own healing wisdom.
